In Gouty Arthritis, Gouty attacks can come suddenly. Most often at night with intense pain, swelling. It may also feel like your feet is on fire.
Cause of Gouty arthritis:
Gouty Arthritis (Gout) is caused initially by an excess of uric acid in the blood. As Uric acid is produced in the body during the breakdown of purines. Purine can be found in many food. For example pees, spinach, mushrooms, dried beans, meat, poultry, seafood. Similarly, it can also be found in beer. Usually, uric acid formed in the body dissolves in the blood. And is excreted through the kidneys. However, if your body is producing too much uric acid or is notable to remove enough of it, as a result it can build up and form needle-like crystals. Which can trigger inflammation tissue, hence causing Gout.
Symptoms :
- Intense pain or Severe attack of pain in Joints.
- Redness in Joints.
- Swollen Joints.
- Heat in the affected area.
- Mostly Gout attacks occur suddenly. Most often at night.
- Tenderness in the affected area.
- While having a Gout attack, a person may feel like his feet is on fire.
- Lumps or stiffness in Joints.
Self-Care :
- Firstly, avoid having high-purine (purine-rich) foods. For example, like red meat, spinach, dried beans, mushrooms, asparagus, cauliflower. As well as Seafood, lamb, beef, etc. too.
- Try to have low-fat dairy products.
- Maintain a healthy weight. Try calorie-reducing diet which is helpful for weight loss. As obesity or putting too much weight can also be associated with Gout.
- Meanwhile keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Water can actually help to improve Gout condition. As water helps in flushing out excess uric acid from your body.
- Avoid having beer and liquor. Both of them substantially increase blood uric acid levels.
- According to a study, consumption of fresh cherries is associated with a 35% decreased risk of Gout.
- Drinking beverages sweetened with sugar or high fructose corn syrup increases the risk of Gout.
Home Remedies :
- Rest the affected Joint during the pain.
- Keep the Joint Elevated.
- Likewise, apply Cold Therapy by applying an Ice-pack. Apply for 10-15 minutes at a time on the affected joint to help relieve pain.
- Meanwhile, consume Apple Cider Vinegar diluted in water. Apple Cider Vinegar contains Malic Acid. Which helps in breaking down as well as removing uric acid from the body.
- Try having Vitamin C rich foods. Like lime, Amla (Gooseberry), Guava, Oranges etc. These foods contains citric acid. Which helps in dissolving the uric acid.
- Consume Anti-inflammatory foods. For instance, like ginger and turmeric. Such foods can help your body fight the Gout-induced inflammation from within.
- Magnesium has been found useful in lowering elevated uric acid levels in the body. Hence add magnesium reach foods to your diet.
Gout can’t kill you directly. But it can cause serious health problems to you. You may develop clumps of uric acid crystals called Tophi. Which can become infected and life threatening, if Gout remains untreated.
