Diabetes – Basics that you should know

Diabetes is a metabollic disease. It occurs when your blood glucose i.e. the sugar in your blood is very high. Blood glucose is actually a vital source of energy that comes from the food you eat. A hormone called Insulin generated by the pancreas in the blood into cells to be used for energy.

In this case, our body doesn’t make enough-or any-of this hormone i.e. Insulin, or doesn’t use it in proper way.

Now, all the sugar present in our blood got stuck their, when remains unused. And gradually it starts hitting or you can say damaging our nerves, kidney, eyes as well as other organs too.

You may have heard people using some terms like, “a touch of sugar” or “borderline diabetes”. Although these terms sounds like someone doesn’t have a serious case of diabetes, but actually..

ANY CASE OF DIABETES IS A SERIOUS CASE.

Types of Diabetes :

1) Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes
Insulin is needed for Type 1 patient for survival

In this case our immune system attacks and destroys the cells in our pancreas that makes the hormone called Insulin. That means our body stops producing Insulin. Though, it’s unclear that what makes our immune system work against our body.

This type can be diagnosed at any age, but it appears mostly in childhood and young adults.

As in this type, our body stop making Insulin, people who suffer from this type, have to take Insulin from outside source everyday to stay alive.

2) Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes
Most common type

In this case, our body doesn’t make or use Insulin properly. Though, this type can develop in any age, still it occurs mostly in mid-aged and older people.

However, it can also occur if you have a family history of diabetes, or are overweight, suffering from High Blood Pressure, physical inactivity, over stressed. This all also can be the reasons for developing type 2 diabetes.

Hence, these certain reasons makes this type, the most common type of this disease.

3) Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes
During pregnancy

A hormone that causes Insulin-blocking produced by the Placenta (an organ that develops in women uterus during pregnancy) is the reason for high-blood sugar in the body. And that causes Gestational Diabetes.

Mostly this one goes away once the baby is born. But in this case, their is a higher chance of developing Type 2 diabetes too.

Though there are other kinds too like, monogenic diabetes, cystic fibrosis-related diabetes, etc but these three kinds are the most common kind.
