What does Smoking means ?

Smoking is the practice of Inhaling and Exhaling the Smoke of Tabacco or a Drug.

People who smoke generally develops habit of Smoking. Because the body and mind get used to the Nicotine, that contains in the Cigarettes. Soon it becomes a need to make themselves feel normal.

Smoking

Active Smoker :

People who directly smoke, are called Active Smokers. They inhale mainstream smoke (MS), the smoke that is drawn directly through the end of the cigarette.

Passive Smoker :

People who inhale the smoke, called second hand smoke, by persons other than the intended “active” smokers. They too can get affected by the same problems which active smokers can get affected.

Smoking Effects on Health

WHO has estimated that using tabacco, is currently responsible for the death of about Six Million people across the world each year. Many of these deaths occurring prematurely. This figure includes about 6,00,000 people who die from the effects of Second Hand Smoke.

Brain

Nicotine also stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain, mimicking dopamine, so your brain starts to associate nicotine use with feeling good. It also stops new brain cells forming. When brain stops getting nicotine, of which it became habituate, than it result into Nicotine Withdrawal. The withdrawal symptoms can be highly intense. Some common withdrawal symptoms are Headache, Cough, Sore-Throat, Insomnia, Dry Mouth, Gas & Pain in Stomach. Including Postnasal Drip, Cravings to Smoke, Tightness in the Chest, which makes quitting smoking so hard ( but not impossible ).

Heart

Smoking increases heart rate, tightens major arteries. It makes your heart work harder. The Chemicals and compounds such as tar and carbon monoxide contained in Cigarettes, lead to the build up of fatty plaque in the arteries, possibly by injuring the vessel walls. Over time, heart disease can lead to chest pain, heart attack, heart failure, arrhythmia or even death.

Lungs

Smoking can cause lung disease by damaging your airways and the small air sacs found in your lungs. Cough, Cold, Wheezing and Asthma are just some common effects of smoking. Smoking can cause fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstruction pulmonary disease ( COPD ).

Respiratory System

The principle nonmalignant respiratory diseases caused by cigarette smoking – COPD, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis and Asthma are defined in Table 7.2. Smokers inhale voluntarily, breathe deeply and hold their breath. It maximizes contact between smoke and alveoli. Damaged alveoli in your lungs, making you short of breath.

Skin

Smoke coming out of Cigarette, contains carbon monoxide. Which displaces the oxygen in your skin, and nicotine, which reduces blood flow, leaving skin dry and discolored. Smoking also can lead to premature skin aging, increased infections, number of skin disorders, etc.

What happen when we smoke?

So, Smoking Cigarettes or any other kind of tabacco related stuff can actually cause much more serious health issue to you. It not only affects you but the people too who are around you. Even to your loved ones.

Quitting Smoking can actually be hard but yet not Impossible. Cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals ( HHS,2010 ). Avoid using such kind of tabacco contained products and cigarettes.
